Share Your Voice Poetry Competition
All children are great storytellers, regardless of their unique abilities.
The “Share Your Voice” Poetry Competition has been established in order to provide school age children with disabilities the opportunity to be published in a professionally produced poetry anthology and gain an introduction into the world of creative writing.
The competition is designed to discover the writing talents of school-aged children with a disability and may use alternative forms of communication in order to develop their skills and enable them to find their unique voice through poetry. Children can submit a poem that they have either written, spoken to a scribe or created using any means of communication open to them. There is no entry fee, no prescriptive theme or topic, and the poetry may be incorporated as part of a school’s writing program or pursued by individual children working with an adult mentor or alone. The competition can be entered by individuals, or by schools as part of their writing programs.

Award winning international children’s author, Michelle Worthington, is available for author visits to facilitate workshops designed to meet the specific needs of children with disabilities learn about poetry and write their own poems for entry into the competition. Michelle is not one of the judges and all works will be in the children’s words. Winning poems will be published in a book titled” Can You Hear Me Calling?” which is due for release in October 2017. The winner will receive a cash prize of $50, second prize $25 and third prize $15 along with a copy of the anthology and a certificate.
Note: other poets will not receive payment or a cash award and will have the opportunity to purchase a pre-release copy of the anthology at a discounted price. The anthology will be available to purchase after the release date by the general public at the full RRP.
The judging panel is made up of poets and experts from the publishing sector. All published authors will be invited to a book launch to be held at the Wellington Point Community Hall on Saturday 21st October from 1pm to 3pm, where the winners will be presented with their cheque, book and certificate if they are able to attend. All published poets will receive a personal invitation to this event to celebrate their achievements.
